IMPORTANT POINTS you should have learned from Academic writing:
1.    Academic writing is a special kind of writing for college and university work. It is INTENDED FOR A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE (primarily your instructors and professors).
2.    Academic writing is FORMAL in tone.
3.    The purpose of academic writing is usually TO EXPLAIN OR TO PERSUADE. The purpose of a piece of writing will determine its rhetorical form.
4.    Prewriting activities are useful for NARROWING A TOPIC AND GENERATING IDEAS.
5.    Three useful BRAINSTORMING TECHNIQUES are LISTING, FREEWRITING, and CLUSTERING.
6.    Revision is an essential part of the writing process. Your first effort is called the rough draft. After checking it for CONTENT AND ORGANIZATION (using the Paragraph Checklists at the ends of most chapters), write your second draft. Check your second draft for GRAMMAR AND MECHANICS, and then write a final copy to hand in.
